Interoception

The ability to recognize and perceive the internal sensations your body has.  These could be physical sensations like recognizing pain or temperature, as well as sensations related to organ function such as your heart beat.  Children with autism commonly have some impairments in their interoception ability.  They might not recognize that they are hungry, thirsty, or are wearing warm clothes while it is hot out.
