Emotional processing

The process in which the memory structures that underlie emotions in someone’s brain are modified.  This happens when you experience an emotionally distressing event and your brain remembers it so you can cope with these experiences over time.  This allows you to process an event over and over again even if the event lasted a short amount of time.
